Game Setup

Last time on Dragons of Despair: The heroes have worked their way around the river in the street to a side alley, only to learn they need to cross on the other side. Sar, their gully dwarf companion, leads them to the Highbulp Phudge I, but Tanis discovers two secret doors. They follow one into an Aghar food fight where disgusting smelling porridge is being thrown all over. The heroes enter one by one and all are hit by the porridge except for Goldmoon. On the other side they find a waiting room where Sar leaves them to announce them. They meet Phudge who is initially reluctant to help, but comes around when they say they are going to kill the Dragon. He tells them the discs they are looking for war in her hoard, and he can give them a map to the secret tunnel. Sar guides them to it and they find an escaped Que-Shu plainswoman named Sunstar. Her mate is imprisoned and she offers to go with them. They enter the tunnel and it is a long claustrophobic nightmare slowly filling up with water. THey find their way to the other side and climb up to the dragon’s lair, but can’t see well inside. Then Flint goes up and meets Khisanth the black dragon face to face. She breathes her acid breath and Flint’s corpse falls to the ground. The heroes flee as fast as they can and are discovered by Sar on the other side. Goldmoon raises Flint from the dead with the Blue Crystal Staff and Flint’s eyes flutter open.

About DL1 Dragons of Despair

You stand on the road east of Solace, tired from five years of adventuring, from a fruitless search for lost clerical magic. You know the old proverb that claims “You must return to find what you left to seek,” but the saying never really made sense. Soon, however, it will.

For the world of Krynn is not the same: refugees stream out of the northernmost human lands, telling horrible tales. An invading army has burned their villages and put their families and friends to the sword. Among these stories you hear even darker rumors-that older evils, the dragons themselves, have returned to the world, for new and more terrible purposes.

“Dragon of Despair” is the first in TSR’s series of Dragonlance adventures for use with the AD&D game system. Your players will adventure in the world of Krynn, visit strange places such as Haven or ruined Xak Tsaroth, and encounter the bizarre draconians and spectral minions. They can play the modules as a set of separate adventures or as a great quest that spans the entire Dragonlance story.

An adventure for characters Level 4-6.
