Game Setup

Last time on I6 Ravenloft: As the Strahd Zombies attacked, the heroes made quick work of them and Danior investigated the balcony. He found the Hall of Grace and brought the heroes up to it, they then barred the doors. They found a secret door leading to the Trapworks. After some investigating, Valindor learns it lifts a ‘trap’ up from the darkness, raising it to the top of a 230 foot shaft. Danior rides it up and finds The Landing which leads to a Lounge. It has a bookcase filled with books and some chairs and couches. He continues investigating into the Guestroom with a Closet. As he returns to The Landing, the heroes bring the Trap back down the shaft and ride it up to him. They rest in the room but as the final shift ends, the sheer stench of the seven heroes who have not cleaned gore and BO off themselves in days finally overwhelms their senses in this tight confined space. They rush out the door to find a Rust Monster waiting which attacks. As Danior and Connor flee into the closet, Brother Varin and Chelael fight it with support from Kael. Then two witches appear out the windows and start to cast spells. Brother Varin silences one of them and a fireball explodes against the window, sending flames both in and back at the witches. The witches decide to flee and after consuming all the metal it can, so does the rust monster. The heroes try once again to rest only to find Wraiths wandering into the room. Brother Varin banishes them after the Fighter blinds them with light. Bats harass the heroes as they attempt to regain their spells, then Strahd appears and charms the Monk who attacks the casters, but is subdued with Aria’s Rope of Entanglement. Brother Varin Dispels Magic on himself and Kael, releasing them from Strahd’s Charm. They leave the safety of the Guestroom in the morning fleeing down the stairs and some are both hypnotised and levitated by the Guardian Portrait on The Landing. The unaffected drag them down the stairs and they all enter the Office of the King’s Accountant. The race through on threat of alarm and find themselves in the Audience Hall where they discover the Holy Symbol of Ravenkind on the throne…

About I6 Ravenloft

Under raging stormclouds, a lone figure stands silhouetted against the ancient walls of castle Ravenloft. Count Strahd von Zarovich stares down a sheer cliff at the village below. A cold, bitter wind spins dead leaves around him, billowing his cape in the darkness. Lightning splits the clouds overhead, casting stark white light across him. Strahd turns to the sky, revealing the angular muscles of his face and hands. He has a look of power – and of madness. His once-handsome face is contorted by a tragedy darker than the night itself.

Rumbling thunder pounds the castle spires. The wind’s howling increases as Strahd turns his gaze back to the village. Far below, yet not beyond his keen eyesight, a party of adventurers has just entered his domain. Strahd’s face forms a twisted smile as his dark plan unfolds. He knew they were coming, and he knows why they came – all according to his plan. He, the master of Ravenloft, will attend to them.

Another lightning flash rips through the darkness, its thunder echoing through the castle’s towers. But Strahd is gone. Only the howling of the wind – or perhaps a lone wolf – fills the midnight air. The master of Ravenloft is having guests for dinner. And you are invited.

I6: “Ravenloft,” by Tracy and Laura Hickman, is the sixth module in the long-running Intermediate series of adventures for AD&D. It was released in October 1983.

About Advanced Dungeons & Dragons

An updated version of D&D was released between 1977 and 1979 as Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (AD&D). The game rules were reorganized and re-codified across three hardcover rulebooks, compiled by Gary Gygax, incorporating the original D&D rules and many additions and revisions from supplements and magazine articles. The three core rulebooks are the Monster Manual (1977), the Player’s Handbook (1978), and the Dungeon Master’s Guide (1979).
