Game Setup

Last time on Dragons of Despair: Our heroes met on the road leading into Solace when they were accosted by ten hobgoblins. Their leader said “Onyx demands the Forge Hammer! Forfeit the hammer now or die!” With no idea what he was talking about, the hobgoblins engaged the party, and the heroes fought back! A Neidar Dwarf approached the party during the fight and offered to help them. In the aftermath he brought out a Forge Hammer and used it to actually heal two of the party members! He explained that the hammer has been in his family for generations, since before the Cataclysm and he had a vision telling him to bring it to Solace. He joins the party to enter Solace. They visit the Inn of the Last Home and learn that the hammer is being sought by the Seekers to stop the occupation of the Hobgoblins. There’s even a reward for it. Rumors abound that the hammer is in Darken Woods or from there. There was even rumor of a White Stag seen near Prayers Eye Peak, and those who walk its path are blessed. Then an old man told them the hammer needs to be in Xak Tsaroth in a few days, facing great peril for the greatest gift given to man.

About DL1 Dragons of Despair

You stand on the road east of Solace, tired from five years of adventuring, from a fruitless search for lost clerical magic. You know the old proverb that claims “You must return to find what you left to seek,” but the saying never really made sense. Soon, however, it will.

For the world of Krynn is not the same: refugees stream out of the northernmost human lands, telling horrible tales. An invading army has burned their villages and put their families and friends to the sword. Among these stories you hear even darker rumors-that older evils, the dragons themselves, have returned to the world, for new and more terrible purposes.

“Dragon of Despair” is the first in TSR’s series of Dragonlance adventures for use with the AD&D game system. Your players will adventure in the world of Krynn, visit strange places such as Haven or ruined Xak Tsaroth, and encounter the bizarre draconians and spectral minions. They can play the modules as a set of separate adventures or as a great quest that spans the entire Dragonlance story.

An adventure for characters Level 4-6.
