Setup
You managed to get passage on a merchant barge traveling down the Vingaard river toward Vogler. On the barge you meet Estes Joansen, a young beautiful woman who was traveling with her ward Xulfan Meriin, a bloated toad of a man.
She claims to be traveling to Kalaman to meet up with her mother in law who is to look after her. She does not want to go there as her mother in law is a horrid woman who beats her for the slightest infraction. If she could secure her inheritance from Xulfan’s lockbox, she could afford to leave on her own. In truth she is a druid of Zeboim who is being taken to her mother-in-law to try to be saved. Her mother is a priestess of Mishakal and wants to save her daughter before she turns fully to evil. Estes has a necklace that she found in the Vingaard river, which is the source of her evil.
Intro
You have been aboard the Battered Mermaid for longer than you would have liked. Your journey to Vogler has been slow, as this merchant ship was the only vessel you could book passage on, out of Jansburg. You have been set to task assisting with maintenance and daily operations of the ship, when the ship took to port in Kentrell to unload supplies. Captain Golsch picked up two more passengers that were heading to Kalaman. A young woman and a bloated old man. Both seem to be indifferent to each other at best. As the ship leaves port, we pick up with our adventure. It is evening and Solinari is lighting up the river. The lazy procession of the ship is now almost comforting to you as you notice the young woman looking at you, and smiling.
