D&D Adventure System – Through the Mists

Join me as I play with Hero of the Lance member Derek and Joe in the adventure Through the Mists with the D&D Adventure Cooperative Game. Recap

  • This is the second in a four part customized Dragonlance themed adventure arc. In part one Thorgrim, a Niedar Dwarf Cleric of the Iron Head Clan and Arjhan, a Flame Draconian fighter for Kiri-Jolith entered a secret tunnel beneath Dargaard Keep in search of an ancient amulet that is rumored to play a part in the downfall of the Death Knight Lord Soth wo plagues the lands of Nightlund. They were not successful in escaping with the artifact and fell in the darkness. Thus begins today’s adventure, Through the Mists.

Playthrough

  • Through the Mists (Castle Ravenloft Adventure 3 – Altered)
    • Start of the Adventure Copy
      • The heroes are awakened by Alan the Human Ranger of Chislev. It was simple for the accomplished Ranger to follow their trail through Nightlund after hearing of their mission to destroy Lord Soth. He finds Thorgrim and Arjhat lying unconscious near the entrance. After binding their wounds and forcing his last remaining healing potions down their throats, he tells them about Dargaard Keep being shrouded in an impenetrable mist. It took him longer than he liked to find the secret entrance, and now, he is afraid they will not be able to find their way out, as the mist has surrounded them while they lay unconscious. 
      • Suddenly, the heroes hear the whispers of a sorcerer echo through the halls, telling of how he believes he can escape from the mists with his alchemical experiments. Their only hope of escape is to find this sorcerer and convince him to also take them, or defeat him and use his magic to find their way home.
    • When we discover the Laboratory
      • The chamber ahead appears to be a magic-users laboratory, although it appears that the practitioner working here indulges in black magic. You see a dark robed figure in the distance who upon noticing you calls out, “I do not have time for your impudence, Lord Soth has tasked me with escaping this damnable mist and I will not fail him! Leave now, or face the consequences.” You realize that your presence here is merely an act of chaos and that without this experiment, you will be trapped here yourselves. You must defeat this black robed magician and retrieve the experiment!
    • Upon death or defeat of the black robe
      • With defeat/victory imminent you hear the cry of a beast as a dwarf enters the laboratory. He looks at you with a savage eye and retrieves the experiment before you have the opportunity to collect it yourselves. “You will never escape the mists.” Azrael stays cruelly. “Lord Soth may want to escape, but I have other plans…”

Players

  • Fighter – Arjhan
    • He has lived most of his life in hiding, defending his version of good and fighting injustice in the name of Kiri-Jolith. He is a flame draconian with a hatred for evil, he sees himself as an abomination made from evil. He is stoic in nature and will lay down his life if necessary for his companions.
  • Cleric – Thorgrim of the Iron Head Clan
    • A Neidar Dwarf raised in the city of Solanthus that follows Reorx. He has a brash demeanor with a zellios nature for destroying undead and drinking dwarf spirits.   Fiercely loyal to his friends and has a weakness for finely crafted items of the forge.
  • Ranger – Alan / Allisa
    • He is a Human Ranger who is searching for artifacts to help save his small village. I’ve heard stories of the great treasures that Castle Ravenloft might contain so I will do whatever it takes to retrieve them and help my people. And I’m really good at killing stuff, sometimes.

The game runs the Traps, Events, Monsters, and Villains contained within the halls of Castle Ravenloft (with a little help from you).
