DLSaga is now accepting intent to submit notices or submissions for an upcoming high-fantasy anthology. This open call invites writers to submit original fantasy short stories featuring epic adventure, immersive worldbuilding, powerful magic, and unforgettable heroes in our favorite high-fantasy campaign setting.
We are seeking bold voices and compelling stories that capture the spirit of epic fantasy, sword and sorcery, and mythic storytelling. Whether your tale follows a lone warrior, a fallen kingdom, or gods walking among mortals, we want stories that feel legendary.
What We’re Looking For
- Original high-fantasy short fiction
- Epic or intimate fantasy narratives
- Rich settings, deep lore, and strong character arcs
- Magic, monsters, ancient civilizations, and heroic sacrifice

Word Count
- 4,000–7,500 words preferred
- Submissions under 3,000 or over 8,000 words are unlikely to be accepted

- Simultaneous submissions allowed (notify us if accepted elsewhere)
- Multiple submissions permitted; one story per author may be selected
- Do not use the word ‘Dragonlance’. It is a trademark of Wizards of the Coast LLC.

- Double-spaced, 1-inch margins
- Include title only—author name in manuscript is not necessary, it will be in the cover letter

What is the DLSaga High-Fantasy Anthology?
The DLSaga High-Fantasy Anthology is a curated collection of original fantasy short stories featuring epic adventure, rich worldbuilding, powerful magic, and legendary characters. This anthology celebrates classic and modern high fantasy, bringing together new and established voices in the genre.
Who can submit stories?
Submissions are open to all writers, including first-time authors and previously published professionals. There are no geographic restrictions, provided the story is written in English.
What genres are you looking for?
We are seeking high-fantasy short stories, including:
- Epic Fantasy
- Sword and Sorcery
- Dark Fantasy
- Mythic or Legendary Fantasy
Stories should take place in original secondary worlds or strongly fantastical settings.
What is the word count for submissions?
The preferred length is 4,000–7,500 words.
Stories under 3,000 words or over 8,000 words are unlikely to be accepted.
Can I submit more than one story?
Yes. Multiple submissions are allowed, but only one story per author will be accepted for the anthology.
Are simultaneous submissions allowed?
Yes. Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but please notify us immediately if your story is accepted elsewhere so we can withdraw it from consideration.
Do you accept previously published stories?
No. All submissions must be unpublished, including self-published works, blog posts, personal websites, and social media platforms.
What rights are you asking for?
DLSaga requests First Publication Rights only. All rights revert back to the author after publication.
Will authors be paid?
Compensation details will be shared with authors whose stories are accepted. All contributors will receive full author credit and a complimentary copy of the anthology (print and/or digital, as applicable).
What content is not allowed?
While mature themes are acceptable, we do not accept:
- Gratuitous violence or sexual content
- Hate speech or exploitative material
All content must serve the story and the fantasy setting.
How should I format my submission?
- File type: .DOCX or .PDF
- Font: Times New Roman, 12-point
- Double-spaced, 1-inch margins
- Include the story title only
- Do not include your name in the manuscript (blind review)

Can I submit a story set in an existing DLSaga world?
Unless explicitly stated otherwise, submissions should be set in non-descript worlds so as to correspond to our favorite high fantasy setting.
Can I use the word DragonLance in my story?
No. DragonLance is trademarked by Wizards of the Coast, LLC. We cannot use it in reference to your story or world. You are free to use all setting details from places, locations, characters, etc, just not the word DragonLance. I would suggest using DLSaga or omitting it entirely. If referencing the magical item Dragonlance, use Holy Lance, or some derivative thereof.
