Dragonlance is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, in 2024. And while March 1984 saw the first releases in the Dragonlance campaign setting in the form of the Dragon Magazine #83 short story The Test of the Twins by Margaret Weis, and the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons adventure DL1 Dragons of Despair by Tracy Hickman, I believe the novel’s release was most people’s first experience with the Heroes of the Lance and the campaign setting of Dragonlance.
Dragons of Autumn Twilight by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman was released in November 1984, and it send a shockwave through readers and gamers alike. This seminal work of fiction propelled the Dragonlance campaign into the fantasy world with a bang, and we are still hearing the echoes of it today.
Below is a collection of fan contributions—be they written, artistic or video—all celebrating this truly wonderful setting. Please take some time and explore these vibrant Dragonlance fan contributions and discover why and how Dragonlance has positively impacted our collective lives.

I started with the red box in the 80’s. When ADnD 2e was released i played a few sessions of it in Dragonlance a a local DnD club. I played some kender by the name of Tasslehof. I had no knowledge of Dragonlance.
My story with Dragonlance began about twenty years ago roughly, the first book in the franchise I ever read was Children of the Plains by Paul Thompson and Tonya Cook.
