Game Setup

Last time on Dragons of Despair: As the heroes arrived at the ruins of Xak Tsaroth and began investigating, something large and dark flew out of the well, and then everything was shrouded in darkness. The heroes tried to maneuver the terrain blindly and some even found the edge of the magical darkness, when it instantly dropped and a huge black dragon breathed a stream of acid down on Tanis and Flint. The acid completely dissolved them, and the heroes did their best to run. It cast Magic Missile at Caramon, then Tasslehoff before flying back down into the well. The remaining heroes found the entrance and brought the remains of their fallen companions into the temple of Mishakal as the statue came alive. It told them of the Disks of Mishakal that lie within the dragon’s hoard in the ruined city below, and brought back the fallen, healing everyone in the process. The renewed heroes began to search the temple area, discovering three Baaz Dragonians investigating a scroll, and jumped to attack. The heroes were far too efficient and deadly however, for even as one tried to surrender he was destroyed. All ended up turning to stone and crumbling to dust. They decided to take a break and let Raistlin study as everyone else rested, and heard many more creatures moving through the temple area. When they decided to investigate, they found spiral stairs leading deeper down, and a group of Glup clan gully dwarves looking for treasure. They drew a crude map for the heroes and told them about the gong signalling a massive bucket which raises and lowers to the ruined city below.

About DL1 Dragons of Despair

You stand on the road east of Solace, tired from five years of adventuring, from a fruitless search for lost clerical magic. You know the old proverb that claims “You must return to find what you left to seek,” but the saying never really made sense. Soon, however, it will.

For the world of Krynn is not the same: refugees stream out of the northernmost human lands, telling horrible tales. An invading army has burned their villages and put their families and friends to the sword. Among these stories you hear even darker rumors-that older evils, the dragons themselves, have returned to the world, for new and more terrible purposes.

“Dragon of Despair” is the first in TSR’s series of Dragonlance adventures for use with the AD&D game system. Your players will adventure in the world of Krynn, visit strange places such as Haven or ruined Xak Tsaroth, and encounter the bizarre draconians and spectral minions. They can play the modules as a set of separate adventures or as a great quest that spans the entire Dragonlance story.

An adventure for characters Level 4-6.
