Game Setup
Last time on Dragons of Despair: The heroes investigate the Que-Shu village, and discover that it is completely decimated. There are three hobgoblins strung up under a sign which acts as a warning from someone named Verminaard. He is threatening to not take prisoners, only to destroy the people. There are not a lot of bodies lying around, so the heroes believe they have been taken as slaves. Riverwind notes an incredible number of footprints leading south, and they turn that direction to liberate their people. They come across some wraiths which they defeat, then a Que-Teh plainsman named Nightshade. They rescue him from dragon men who turned to stone upon defeat. He said that his village was raided two days ago and his people were captured and transported south as slaves. He narrowly escaped to get aid from the Que-Shu. When he learned about what happened, he decided to travel to Que-Kiri to seek help. He did tell them that the army was discussing a blue crystal staff, and keeping it away from the ruins of Xak Tsaroth. The heroes quickly turn east and cross the forbidden mountains, defeating a huge spider on the way, and end up in the swamps near New Sea. As they traveled north, they came across more dragon men who captured them in magical webs then put them to sleep. They awoke as prisoners missing their gear and are told a great black dragon will arrive to determine their fate. With everything at stake, will the heroes make it out of this prison and deliver the blue crystal staff to Xak Tsaroth?
About DL1 Dragons of Despair
You stand on the road east of Solace, tired from five years of adventuring, from a fruitless search for lost clerical magic. You know the old proverb that claims “You must return to find what you left to seek,” but the saying never really made sense. Soon, however, it will.
For the world of Krynn is not the same: refugees stream out of the northernmost human lands, telling horrible tales. An invading army has burned their villages and put their families and friends to the sword. Among these stories you hear even darker rumors-that older evils, the dragons themselves, have returned to the world, for new and more terrible purposes.
“Dragon of Despair” is the first in TSR’s series of Dragonlance adventures for use with the AD&D game system. Your players will adventure in the world of Krynn, visit strange places such as Haven or ruined Xak Tsaroth, and encounter the bizarre draconians and spectral minions. They can play the modules as a set of separate adventures or as a great quest that spans the entire Dragonlance story.
An adventure for characters Level 4-6.
Written by Tracy Hickman.
